- Review how to use primary sources for historical research
Check the Using Primary Sources section to learn about this or to review what you have already learned. - Receive your category and read associated documents and questions
Your teacher will assign you to a group and give you a category to explore. Read the introduction to the category, the summary of each document and the questions your group will be answering. - Research the questions in the category by skimming and scanning and using the annotations for each document in your category
Use skimming and scanning techniques and the annotations for each document to help you to answer the questions. - Record your research using the Graphic Organizers provided and make extra notes of your own as necessary
Each group will be given graphic organizers to help in making notes. The organizers are specific to the category you have been assigned. You may want to make extra notes of your own if you have more information to record. - Plan your submission again with the help of the Graphic Organizers
With the members in your group, consider how your submission to the class magazine will look. The graphic organizers help by giving you a rough outline for your work. - Create your contribution to the magazine
Divide up the work and create your final copy for submission to the class magazine. - Submit and share with the other groups in the class
Your teacher will provide time for your group to share your work with the other groups in your class. As a class, and with the help of your teacher, you can decide where each submission will fit in the magazine and how best to order them. - Publish all of the contributions in the form of a magazine.
Your teacher will provide the materials needed to complete the magazine and offer guidance on how to do this. Your teacher will also give your class time to research and publish the class magazine.
