ABOUT THE TIME MACHINE

The Ontario Time Machine (OTM) is dedicated to student learning and the discovery of Ontario's early documentary heritage. The site is designed to support the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum expectations for student and teacher learning activities. The OTM is for students in Grades 7 and 8 studying history from 1759 to World War I.
The OTM showcases a selection of digitized historical books through the Toronto Public Library’s interactive page-turning application. The books were specifically selected from the partner collections to represent a range of types of publications, subjects, viewpoints and perspectives. The rich and varied book content is further enhanced by links that reveal related texts, images and sounds.
We provide Introductory Activities and Student Activities where students have the opportunity to learn about Ontario history through the exploration and examination of original books, diaries, and other publications. A Teacher’s Guide is included to direct teachers in the use of these resources. Graphic organizers and assessment tools are also provided.
